Tech powerhouses such as Google, Meta Platforms, and Qualcomm have joined forces with a cadre of other influential tech entities to champion the cause of open digital ecosystems. This strategic alliance, formed in the wake of the European Union’s new tech regulations, not only aligns with the current legislative landscape but also seeks to proactively shape future policies.
The consortium, named the Coalition for Open Digital Ecosystems, has set its sights on fostering a more inclusive digital market in Europe. By advocating for platforms that are more accessible and systems that are more interoperable, they aim to spur growth and innovation across the continent.
In the spirit of this initiative, the coalition has committed to engaging with a diverse spectrum of stakeholders, including academics, policymakers, and fellow corporations. Their focus is to ensure that the principles of digital openness are intricately woven into the fabric of the Digital Markets Act (DMA) and are reflected in forthcoming EU regulatory frameworks.
Stan Larroque of Lynx articulated the coalition’s perspective: “Openness is the crucial element that underpins innovation and competitive dynamism in Europe’s digital landscape.”
The coalition’s roster is as diverse as it is formidable, featuring companies like Honor, Lenovo, augmented reality pioneers Lynx, Motorola, the innovative UK electronics firm Nothing, Opera, and the German messaging service Wire.
Their collective ambition is clear: to pave the way for digital ecosystems that are not only seamlessly connected but also allow for unfettered interoperability, setting a new standard for the tech industry’s future.
