Layered Reality, a pioneer in immersive entertainment, is set to astonish the music world by reviving the legendary Elvis Presley for a series of live performances. Using advanced artificial intelligence, the company will harness thousands of Elvis’s personal photos and home videos to construct a holographic projection that promises to captivate audiences.
Titled “Elvis Evolution,” this innovative experience will offer fans an unprecedented journey through the King of Rock and Roll’s life. The tour will commence with a grand premiere in London this November, with subsequent shows planned for Las Vegas, Berlin, and Tokyo.
Andrew McGuinness, CEO of Layered Reality, shared with Reuters the project’s highlight—a “live” AI-powered performance that stands as the experience’s grand finale. This initiative marks a significant moment in the entertainment industry, following Universal Music Group’s release of the Beatles’ “last song,” also facilitated by AI.
The use of AI in music extends beyond posthumous performances. Artists like Grimes have embraced the technology, with the musician launching elf.tech, a platform for AI-generated music using her voice, and offering a 50% royalty share with AI creators.
While this technological marvel showcases the potential of AI in the arts, it has raised concerns in Hollywood, leading to a 118-day strike by the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists. The resultant agreement has laid down guidelines for the use of digital replicas, though the debate over the ethical implications continues.
